Work Log — Help

On your old phone, open Settings → General and choose Backup Database. Email the backup file to yourself.

On your new phone, install Work Log, open the email, and tap the attached.db file — Work Log will offer to restore it. You can also use Settings → General → Restore Database and pick the file yourself.

Do this before you wipe or trade in the old phone. Your shifts live only on the device — there is no account or cloud copy we can restore for you.

The main Work Log app does everything — it stores your shifts, does the calculations, and holds your settings. The second app is just an unlock key. When you open Work Log, it checks whether the key app is installed on the same phone, and if it is, premium features are enabled and ads are removed.

Because the check is simply “is the key app installed?”, uninstalling it turns premium features back off. Reinstalling it turns them back on — nothing is lost either way. The key app itself holds no data; you can hide its icon from within it if you would rather not see it in your app drawer.

No. Work Log Pro is a one-time purchase tied to your Google account. Sign in to the same Google account on the new phone and reinstall it from Google Play at no extra cost — Play remembers that you own it. Remember to install both apps, since the main app looks for the key app to unlock premium features.

On the View Shifts screen, tap a column title — such as Date or Hours — to sort by it. Tap the same title again to reverse the direction. The order you choose is remembered.

A single time range cannot run past midnight, so an overnight premium is entered as two ranges within the same premium. Open Settings → Premium Hours/Shift Differential and turn on Premium A, then set:

Then set Active Days, and the Differential Type and Increase for the rate. For example, time-and-a-half is Differential Type Percentage with an Increase of 50; a flat extra $3 an hour is Differential Type Dollar Amount with an Increase of 3.

If you use Work Log – Shift Tracker instead, you do not need this workaround — a single premium there can run straight through midnight, and it has six premium slots rather than two.

The usual cause is Raises. If a raise is set up for a job, it overrides the plain hourly wage from the date it takes effect, so editing the wage on its own appears to do nothing.

Open Settings for that job and check the Raises section. Either update the raise that covers the dates you are looking at, or turn Raises off if you are not using them. Also check whether the premium hours above are applying to the shifts you are checking, since a differential changes the effective rate for part of a shift.

They are two separate apps. Work Log is the original, released for Android in 2013 — the one this page is about. It is not being discontinued, and you can keep using it for as long as you like.

Work Log – Shift Tracker is the newer app, for Android and iPhone. It adds cloud backup and sync between devices, viewing several jobs at once, per-shift wages, more than twenty languages, and access to this website for viewing and exporting your shifts in a browser. Its upgrade is a monthly or yearly subscription rather than a one-time purchase, and buying Work Log Pro does not unlock it.

If you want to move across, update both apps in Google Play, keep the original Work Log installed, and use Transfer to New App in the original app's General settings.
